He was born in 1913 in Alexandria, Egypt, where his father had taken refuge from Epirus. He lived the first years of his life in his hometown, Zitsa and later settled in Ioannina. In 1931 he came to Athens where he studied with a scholarship at ASKT (1932-1937). He was taught by Argyros, Mathiopoulos and Parthenis. In 1937 he taught painting lessons at a private tutoring center. In 1938 he was appointed to the art department of the National Archaeological Museum. However, he was fired during the first period of the Occupation. In 1943 he was hired in secondary education while in 1944 he rejected his appointment as the director of the branch of ASKT in Tinos. From 1946 he taught art at the College of Athens while from 1958 to 1962 he taught at the Vakalo School. In 1960 he contributed the most to the establishment of the Municipal Gallery of Ioannina. He was a member of the board of directors of the Cultural Center of the Municipality of Athens and chairman of the Artistic Committee of the National Gallery. He was a member of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece (EETE). Through his own actions, the Engraving Gallery was created in Zitsa. He died on March 20, 2007.

  • Lithography is a printing technique which was invented around 1798 by A. Alois Senefelder, based on the fact that water and fats are never mixed.
  • The subject or performance is drawn with greasy chalk on stone (porous limestone) or tin plate and then dried. When water runs on the designed surfaces, the greasy ink “catches” only in the places that are engraved and not in the wet stone.
