Artist’s CV
Dimitris Mytaras, painter and stage designer, was born in Chalkida in 1934 and passed away on February 16, 2017, at the age of 82. Despite being very young in 1940, the war experience matured him and taught him a rare life lesson. He studied painting at the School of Fine Arts (1953-1958) with Yannis Moralis and Spyros Papaloukas as teachers. He continued his studies in scenography at the “École Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs” as well as interior design at the “Métiers d’Art” in Paris (1960-1964) with a scholarship from the I.K.Y.
“The wall of the house is the first canvas that a child has at his disposal to paint on. In all the houses you can see paintings on the walls.”
His first solo exhibition took place in Athens (1961, Libra).
In 1964 he took over the direction of the interior laboratory of the Doxiadis Schools.
After completing his studies and returning to Athens in 1964, he took over the direction of the interior laboratory of the Doxiadis Schools.
In 1975 he was elected a professor of ASKT. His works have been exhibited in Athens, in individual exhibitions at the galleries “Zygos”, “Astor”, “Merlin”, Hall of Art (Thessaloniki), as well as in Bologna, Florence, Rome, Genoa, etc.. In March 2008 was elected a regular member of the Academy of Athens. The Academy deleted him from its yearbook because after an illness he became blind.
Dimitris Mytaras himself taught at the School of Fine Arts and due to limited time, the Chalkida Art Workshop that opened its doors in 1979 was taken over by his wife Hariklias.
He is a member of the Greek Chamber of Visual Arts.
