Siamkouri Magda is a painter and engraver. Born in Thessaloniki in 1951, he studied painting and printmaking at the Athens School of Fine Arts (1980-1985) with D. Mytara, P. Tetsis and Th. Exarchopoulos and continued with postgraduate studies in London, at the Royal College of Art and St. Martin’s School of Art (1986-1990). In London he was mainly engaged in engraving, in engravings using the technique of tonal etching and needlepoint.

She drew specific forms from the natural world, which she incorporated into her compositions and combined freely, creating new, imaginary images of atmospheric pollutants. In contrast to her prints, in her paintings she renounces the space of reality and figurative writing.

  • Lithography is a printing technique which was invented around 1798 by A. Alois Senefelder, based on the fact that water and fats are never mixed.
  • The subject or performance is drawn with greasy chalk on stone (porous limestone) or tin plate and then dried. When water runs on the surfaces that are designed, the greasy ink only “catches” on the areas that are engraved and not on the wet stone.
