From 1982 to 1987 he studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts with Dimitris Mytaras and received a scholarship from the State Scholarship Foundation (I.K.Y.) for the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts in France. Until 1989, he studied with Giannis Tsarouchis.

His works can be found in numerous private collections around the world. For the last ten-eight years Giannis Koutrikas has been working almost exclusively with Fine Arts Kapopoulos Gallery. This is, as he states, a stable and constructive collaboration that promotes his art, both in Greece and abroad.
