Yannis Kottis was born in Kokkoni, Corinthia in 1949. He studied painting at the A.S.K.T. with Yannis Moralis and Nikos Nikolaou.
At the same time he attended courses in stage design.

In 1979 he went to Paris on a scholarship from the A.S.C.T. and attended classes at the Beaux-Arts for three years. Since 1980 he has been working with Zoumboulakis Gallery and Samy Kinge Gallery in Paris. He exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Dunkirk at the Salon de Monttouge at the Bretigny Sur Orge Cultural Centre, at the Bienale Alexandria, at the Bienale des Artistes Nuevo in Cagne Sur Mer.

He has also exhibited at the Epikentro Gallery in Patras, Cour 21 Gallery in Nantes, Anne-Marie de Sacy Gallery in Paris and at the Art Forum and ZM Galleries in Thessaloniki.
