Panagiotis Gravvalos (1933-2014) was born in Larissa in 1933. He studied painting at ASKT with his teachers S. Papalouka and G. Moralis. From 1960 he was also involved in graphic arts. He collaborated with the engraver Tassos in the design of many Greek and foreign stamps and taught at ATI.

His familiarity with the techniques of printmaking and graphic arts allows him to move fluently in the field of mixed media. Highlighting its aesthetic and expressive possibilities. Both in his painting and in his engraving work, the design element dominates. The use of color, in direct relation to the design, often plays a decisive role in the performance of space and light. The linear purity of the design and the utilization of the rhythm of the composition are the pre-eminent elements that ensure the expressive effectiveness of his work.

In 1971, at a world competition in Warsaw, a poster of his with sports content was awarded the first prize and has been on display at the Museum of Graphic Arts in Poland ever since. He has been awarded internationally for many of his stamps, as well as the engraving prize at the 2nd Panhellenic Youth Exhibition.

  • Engraving is an art form in which the creator carves a design on a surface. This surface is then covered with ink and pressed onto paper. This way, the same design can be reprinted multiple times.
  • Today, the term engraving usually refers to the engraving of designs and symbols on a surface. This surface will then serve as a plate for making paper copies. The work (copy on paper or other medium) created in this way is called engraving.
