Vangelis Dionatas was born in Piraeus in 1954. From 1971 to 1974 he worked with the painter George Vogiatzis. In 1981 he graduated with honours from the Athens School of Fine Arts, where he studied painting with Yannis Moralis School of Fine Arts. At the same time, he attended the fresco painting and the technique of portable icons workshop with a scholarship from the IKY under the tutelage of Kostas Xynopoulos.

Vangelis Dionatas studied fresco painting and portable icon technique under Kostas Xynopoulos, and has presented his efforts in both group and solo exhibitions in Greece and abroad. But his painting seems to move in a personal direction that demonstrates his close contact with all the pursuits of contemporary art. His painting takes visual reality as its starting point, without limiting itself to the simple metaphor of its external elements. He always aims and succeeds in conveying in his efforts a purely free and personal interpretation, which is distinguished for its persuasiveness and expressive richness.

• Monotype is a technique between painting and engraving. It could be defined as a printed painting. The final work, which is unique in contrast to the engraving where we have identical copies, is printing, but without always having the usual matrix.
• In the monotype one creates indirectly as in the engraving and the final result is seen with the printing. On the one hand the immediacy of the painting on the printing plate and on the other the attempt to control at the same time factors, such as the fluidity of the color or the ink, or the pressure of the printing, the texture of the paper, as well as the possibility to create endless variations on its original theme, give the monotypes a special charm.
