Artist’s CV
Maria Pop was born in 1925 in Neo Faliro to a Spanish father, the well-known musician (violinist) Iosif Boustindoui, and to a Greek mother, Eleni Georgandopoulou, also a musician (she was a student of her later husband). She wanted to follow in her parents’ footsteps for this and studied music while also receiving a diploma in dramatic art from the National Theater School. Her sister Iulia, later wife of Andreas Iatridis, also studied music (violin) and worked for 15 years as a violin teacher at the Conservatory of the Piraeus Association. Ultimately, however, both Maria and Iulia followed different paths. Iulia, on the other hand, studied Spanish language and literature at the University of Barcelona, systematically dealing with the promotion of Spanish-language literature. Maria was won over by painting. She completed her first painting in 1952, while in 1959 she presented her work for the first time in an exhibition at the ZYGOS gallery.
