Artist’s CV

Pavlos Samios was born in Athens in 1948.

From a young age he was involved in painting and drawing while helping his father in the shoe workshop.

He loved religious painting which won him over from a very early age and he worked in the Hagiography workshop of Dionysis Karousos until he was eighteen years old. At the same time, he attended design courses at the Workshop of Panos Sarafianos and passed on to the School of Fine Arts.

His teachers were Nikos Nikolaou in the Preliminary and Yiannis Moralis in the Painting Workshop. Nikos Nikolaou started with the design and tradition of Ancient Greek Art and Yannis Moralis introduced his students to modern art. Great teachers to whom he owes a lot, as also to Giannis Tsarouchis. He had the opportunity to meet him in Paris and learn so much about the Greek tradition, through the eyes of a unique painter who greatly influenced him in his first works. At the same time, he was in the unique company of the “Magic Flute”, where Manos Hadjidakis, a magician of speech and knowledgeable about the needs of young people, taught them to think without limits.

From 1978 to 1992 he lived and worked in Paris.

Since 2000 he has been a professor at the Athens School of Fine Arts (Laboratory of traditional fresco painting-Byzantine icons-manuscripts). He has painted many small churches with the fresco technique.

He has held 70 individual exhibitions and has taken part in important group exhibitions in Greece and abroad.

He is married to Maria Xanthakou. From his first marriage he has two daughters Pandora and Afaia who live in Paris.
