Artist’s CV
Giannis Psychopaidis was born in Athens in 1945. From 1963 to 1968 he studied Engraving with a scholarship from the IKY at the Academy of Fine Arts in Athens and then Painting with a scholarship from the German state at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich (1970-1976).
He was a member of the artistic group “A” in the 1960s and a member of the visual group of the magazine Epitheorisi Technis, founding member of the group “New Greek Realists” (1971-1973), founding member of the Visual Arts Center (KET 1974-1976), member of the artistic group “10/9” in Munich (1975), visiting fellow of the West Berlin Art Program (DAAD 1977-1978).
From 1970 to 1976 he lived and worked in Munich. From 1977 to 1986 he lived and worked in West Berlin. From 1986 to 1992 he lived and worked in Brussels. In 1994 he was elected professor at the Athens School of Fine Arts, director of the 7th Painting Workshop, where he taught until 2012. In 2013 he was named Professor Emeritus.
From 1966 until today he has had over a hundred individual exhibitions in Greece and abroad. He has also taken part in many important group exhibitions in institutions, art galleries, galleries and museums in Greece and other countries such as France, Germany, Spain, Luxembourg, Yugoslavia, Ireland, Albania, Japan, Belgium , in Algeria, Cyprus, Sweden, Israel, Iran, Turkey, England, Canada, Romania, Egypt, Poland, Holland, Italy, Russia, America and China.
