He was born in Piraeus in 1912, the son of Gaston Mavroidis from Cyprus and Zoe Theoharis from Lefkada. He studied law and political science at the University of Athens, where he met Yannis Tsarouhis with whom he maintained friendly relations. Although he showed an inclination towards painting from an early age, he remained self-taught. In 1946 he entered the Diplomatic Corps and in the same year he traveled to Egypt. There he married Alexandra Thomaidis, with whom they had a daughter.
In 1948, he began his exhibition activity with his participation in the “Armos” exhibition and in the 1st Panhellenic Exhibition in Zappeion together with: Lili Arliotis, Yiannis Mitarakis, Theofrastos Triantafyllidis and others. In 1950 he was appointed secretary general of the Greek consulate in Paris, having the opportunity to study classical art, Renaissance and later European painting, while he met important Greek artists, such as Nikos Hatzikyriakos-Ghikas, Andreas Empirikos and in the city of Antibes he met with Pablo Picasso. In 1959, when he was elected professor of painting at the Academy of Fine Arts, a position in which he remained until 1982, he resigned from the Diplomatic Corps.
