Artist’s CV

Christos Karas was born in Trikala, Thessaly, on December 9, 1930. After short studies at Panteion University (1948-1950), he enrolled at the Athens School of Fine Arts (1951), received his diploma (1955) and with a scholarship from the State Scholarship Foundation (1957) studied fresh at the School of Fine Arts in Paris for three years. He lives in Paris until 1963. At the same time he travels to Belgium, Holland, Spain, Italy and England. Later he made many trips to Venice, Basel, Kassel, Brussels and Berlin, attending the major international exhibitions.
Upon his return to Greece, he actively participates in the effort to create a modern artistic climate, with many individual and group exhibitions, television appearances and interviews in newspapers and magazines. He also founded with other artists the group “Tomi” (1963) and the “Association of Greek Artists” (1976). He participates in the organization of the “First Congress of Greek Artists of Plastic Arts” (1963), the Symposium on: “Establishment of a Museum of Contemporary Art in Greece” (1977) and the Symposium on: “Contemporary Art and Tradition” (1981). In 1984 he represented Greece at the 41st Venice Biennale. In 2001, the Academy of Athens awarded him a prize for his entire work.
