Artist’s CV

Stelios Alexakis  was born on December 4, 1973, in Kournas, Crete. He studied History and Archaeology at the School of Philosophy of the University of Athens and went on to pursue postgraduate studies in Art History. He also studied Painting and Mosaic at the Athens School of Fine Arts (2000–2005). Since 1996, he has worked as a curator at the Kouvoutsakis Art Gallery. He is a member of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece (EETE). He is an internationally established artist with a series of exhibitions held both in Greece and abroad (including the UK, the USA, Russia, Romania, Italy, Turkey, and Japan). His works are held in private and public collections.

His painting encompasses a range of subjects and media, approached with equal sensitivity and a profound creative vision; he combines fine art skills and expertise to explore contemporary socio-political themes. As an observer of human relationships, he captures the essence and subtle interplay between the figures depicted in his portraits and group compositions.

Much like his artistic philosophy, his landscapes—through their technique and mode of expression—imbue nature with a symbiotic essence across the layers unfolding upon the canvas and palette. A similar poetic structure emerges in his mosaics as well. When addressing specific themes of contemporary society, he captures a profound and intricate diversity of subjects, employing a unique style that incorporates classical references and methods.

His art invites the viewer to challenge preconceptions and to observe, through his eyes, an interpretation of a constantly evolving world. He reveals the underlying structure of the socio-cultural and historical fabric—a structure that resonates universally with a contemporary global audience. In many of his works, he combines autobiographical elements with self-portraiture; he is not merely an observer but asserts his own presence within the work. His art is captivating, evocative, and thought-provoking.
