Yannis Adamakos studied painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts(1973-1978) and continued his studies in Paris (1979-1981).
His painting is distinguished by heavy black colours and linear elements, the contradictory space and the pessimistic atmosphere, it is allusive, almost monochrome and based on the combination of dark and light areas.
He was born in Pyrgos, Ilia in 1952. He studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts (1973-1978) with teachers Mytaras, Mavroidis and Tetsis. Alongside his artistic work, he has taught drawing and colour at the Art Workshop of Chalkida and at the Vakalo School. He has presented his work in many solo and group exhibitions in Greece and other European countries, as well as in New York (Hellenic Foundation for Culture, 2002). In 2008 the album Yannis Adamakos: Painting 1977-2007 was published by Agra Publications. He also participated in the 1st Athens Biennale (Destroy Athens, 2007) and in thematic exhibitions (1994: “The Loss of Form in Space”, “The Ephemera of Art”, etc.). In 2013 an exhibition of his recent works was held at the Benaki Museum. It is represented by the gallery CITRONNE.
